ABM Editorial is a digital first group of reporters and editors seeking to provide thought-leading stories with a distinctive voice.
ABM is a media company in the design engineering, manufacturing, life sciences and new technologies sectors. We have more than 100 years of print and digital publishing history in our brands. We are looking for a breaking news and trends reporter based in our Rockaway, NJ headquarters location.
In this role, you will:
o write spot news, trending stories, and blogs
o write quickly with clever leads and be able to produce multiple stories daily
o cull information from multiple sources to compose a complete picture of a news story
o collaborate with the editorial team to identify trending topics each morning to produce relevant industry news pieces
o work with the editorial director in developing a strategy to maximize impact of your stories through social media
We are looking for:
o a bold thinker who can quickly digest information and make it your own.
o a reporter first, you are curious and always challenging accepted norms.
o a storyteller with an interest in new technology, breakthroughs in research and development, and new products that hit the market.
o a high-volume story generator, you are addicted to measurable success in its many forms -- real time and daily traffic, SEO, social shares and referrals, etc.
o a demonstrated excellence in breaking news situations, as well as success in developing long-form journalism
o a skilled communicator with a track record of building an influencer network
o a team player with a good sense of humor and an ability to act with grace under pressure
Preferred
Experience:
o a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, English, or Technical Writing
o at least 2 years experience in a fast-paced news environment, preferably an online news website
o familiarity with all forms of media (print, digital, online, video)
o portfolio of news clips and longer feature articlesEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
